Procrastination only prolongs the time you have to find out the result you will get anyway.
Yes, it’s true that you may feel unprepared or you still don’t see all the pieces of the puzzle assembled.
Yes, you may be afraid to make that move now because it will take you into a field with many unknowns.
Yes, I know there’s a force in you that’s holding you back.
But remember: every day you put off could be a day when you could have taken the most important step in a long time. A step that will completely change your foreseeable future and that will take you to an uncomfortable zone.
The comfort zone is toxic because it prevents your progress, evolution, growth. It can expand day by day, but for that you need to take action.
And these actions must be done with a lot of adaptation and openness to the new.
Humans are beings that can adapt very easily to any context. But our problem is that we are quite difficult when it comes to change. We are reluctant to change. We prefer to choose something known, familiar. Something predictable. It is difficult for us to make choices that are unfamiliar to us or that have nothing to do with what we have been taught or used to until now.
And yet here we are. We want to do great things. We feel we can do more. We have many options. Decisions upon decisions.
We want change and yet we are so hard to change.
If you want to overcome these barriers, a first step would be to be aware that you might have them. Keep in mind that you don’t know what you don’t know. That is why you are on a continuous mission of knowledge. You have to find out. You have to educate yourself. You need to know new perspectives. Be open to other opinions. To see the world outside your box.
You have to detach yourself, your body, your self. You have to “die” to allow yourself to see and understand.
What can you do about knowledge?
Study. Transpose it out of our body through imagination exercises. Think you are the strongest man in the world. Imagine what it would be like if you were born into a poor family in Srilanka. Think how you would have made the decisions up to now if you had the knowledge of the wisest people. Think about what decision you would make 20 years from now, for the present moment.
Most of the time, procrastination occurs because of fear. We are afraid that we might make a bad decision. We’re afraid that maybe it’s not right. We are afraid of failure. People have many fears.
(See my video on FEAR on youtube)
But we must not let fear stop us from doing something we feel we must do. Sometimes you just need a little courage. Or if you lack courage altogether, then I’d say we need more carelessness. Carelessness can be toxic, but there is a type of carelessness that can be used to our advantage.
That is, to care less about the opinion of those around you. Don’t care if you don’t do well. Don’t care so much if everything isn’t perfect. Be less hard on yourself. The ego pushes towards the illusion of perfection.
The ego tells you “You are perfect, you are the best. How to look bad in front of others? Stay where you are because maybe you will fail and people will laugh at us”.
And that is why you have to give up the Ego. Because he is built on past experiences. He only knows what he has seen and felt so far. He always wants the best things to happen and is not willing to lose. But it is precisely because you are not willing to fail that you may not even start something important for fear of failure.
There would be other reasons why people procrastinate: laziness, current bad mood and others. But as you see, they are all mental. All stem from lack of control. Lack of control over our own thoughts and actions causes us to be lazy. It causes us to indulge in distractions (series, movies, pornography, alcohol, drugs, sex, gossip, endless scrolling on social media, etc.).
Lack of control over our own emotions puts sticks in our wheels. It prevents us from being what we want to be. It prevents us from progressing. And we invent all kinds of embarrassing excuses like we don’t feel well, we don’t have the necessary condition, etc.
Here an important step would be mastering your emotions and regaining your own control.
You can’t procrastinate, adapt quickly, and act quickly if you’re not in control. And to be in control you have to regain your own strength over yourself.
Simple exercises and habits such as:
– cold showers
– meditation
– giving up sugar
– giving up alcohol
– quitting smoking
– daily sport
– rest
– putting your phone away when you work
–

–
…
These are just a few examples that I personally use to always be in control. Of course they don’t go to extremes either. Very rarely do I allow myself a “cheat day” when I drink a good wine or eat a homemade cake from my grandmother. But what I mean is that if you do small things and have small victories daily that put you in control, you can and eventually will achieve a level of mastery over your own thoughts, emotions, habits, actions.
You can’t do that overnight or in a few weeks. There are things deeply rooted in you that you may not even be aware of and that you have been doing for years and it will be difficult for you to change them. But you can ask yourself if it’s worth the effort and if you’re willing to make that commitment to change.
This shift I’m talking about will eventually help you achieve clarity, abundance, and a life you’ll be happy with and love. The actions you take today guide your results tomorrow. Focus on what you’re doing now, day by day, and inevitably you’ll see how it all connects and you’ll end up with the success you want, as you perceive it.
Stay strong!
