Too much noise

Reading time:

I was chatting with a friend about how most people treat social media.

Most people have an account on at least one social media platform and go there for entertainment. Log in to see what’s on their feed and what their friends are up to. And that’s perfectly fine. If in the old days you went out in front of the yard, sat on the bench and looked to see what the neighbors and passers-by were doing, that’s how it is now. It’s just that the environment and intensity has changed.

Now you don’t see what only the neighbors and the few passers-by are doing in front of your fence. Now see what anyone is doing from anywhere. And the volume of information we access daily is exceptionally large.

The problem is that in all this audio-visual information that we consume daily, probably somewhere in 99.99% of it we forget it in second 2 when we moved on to something else. Even if we say that everything we consume is pure educational information, very useful for us. At least that’s how it is for me. I’ve “trained” my algorithm on all the platforms I’m on to only show me things that are of great interest to me. So every time I go on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, or X (omg, it sounds like I’m obsessed just saying this), I see quality content from the best of the best.

And another (much more serious) problem is that on some platforms (Instagram), we only see the coolest things in the lives of all the acquaintances and people we follow: pictures from Italy, videos from parties, pictures with a bunch of friends at who knows what festival, etc.

– Well, ok Andrei, and what’s the problem with that? Are you envious of them or…?

Not at all. I’m really happy for them. But I realize one thing: it’s toxic to me and to you. Think of it this way: if all you see every time you go on social media are the funniest moments in the lives of your friends, acquaintances and people you follow, and you’re stressed out with whatever problems you have , do you realize the negative impact it has on your mind?

The reality is not like that. But reality is distorted by appearances on social networks. Everyone who posts cool pictures of what they’re doing and where they’re at has a lot of problems of their own. Some are going through horrible divorces or breakups, some are suffering from love, some have had their cat die, some have barely been to a funeral… some are in debt, some are struggling with a horrible work environment, and so on away.

And this standard has been created in online society to post only what is beautiful and pleasing to the eye. And firecare does that. But when you scroll through Instagram, you see this hundreds of times on different people, and it rubs off on you. It gives you the illusion that something is wrong in your life and so you end up with anxiety, sadness, negative thoughts and maybe even depression or worse.

Do you understand where I am hitting now?

That’s the problem. Appearances are deceiving. Everyone thinks it’s rosy and beautiful, but the reality is different. And keep in mind that they all only show you snippets and only what they want to show you. And I don’t want to be a hypocrite now. Sometimes I do that too. But I also write some good things here and there that are helpful.

Imagine this: some influencers (I won’t name names), take a vacation as cheap as possible in who knows what countries. They take the cheapest accommodations. And then they dress up nicely with their clothes with fake brands taken from Bulgarians and buy a coffee at a restaurant in a 5-star hotel and take about 5-10 videos and pictures from that frame to show off their followers. That’s just how things happen. Some rent cars. Others go 5-10 and pool together (i.e. pool money) to rent some luxury cars, and then do their best to take cheesy pictures. Some also rent suits or pray. Fake. Fake. Fake. I have also written an article about this in the past.

– Ok Andrei, but what does it have to do with the title of the article? what’s the noise

– Well, we are slowly moving towards that.

The noise is that there is too much information. Too many people have something to say. Too many people to follow. Too many videos of all kinds. Too many posts that all say the same thing but look different. Too much lack of substance.

That’s the real problem. Lack of substance and a lot of noise.

I said in a post on Threads (yes, I forgot about Threads….I remembered while I was writing) that appearances are needed to get to the essence. Without appearances people don’t give you credit. You have to invest in appearances. But after you’ve captured people’s attention with appearances – you have to have substance.

What is this essence? That means being authentic. Have something valuable to convey. Something based on your own life experience. Make a little effort to get the message across the way you want. That means becoming creative. To be able to create things, you have to put yourself in the position of a creator, because it will be much easier for you to create. If you say about yourself that you are not creative and that you don’t know how to write or what to talk about, then it will be harder for you to come up with ideas.

Don’t block yourself. Anyone can be a creator. Man is essentially a creative being. We have this gift from God: conscience. That put us at the top of the food chain and helped us evolve and get to where we are today. We must use this divine power to create things for ourselves and for our fellow man.

I’ve always said: rather than consuming content from others, isn’t it better to consume from me?

Why keep something secret if you can find that information somewhere else?

The great creators I follow (Gary Vee, Grant Cardone, Alex Hormozi, Russell Brunson & many others) have already given this advice: provide value. And to provide value you must be willing to provide. You don’t give value with the portion, nor with the goal of making money. The value you provide is to truly help as many people as possible. And the money will come guaranteed, as a result of your work.

Here I smoothly transition to the solution to the problems listed above: to transform from consumer to creator.

Instead of spending hours just watching what others are doing, let others watch what you are doing. I have always been a man of action. As a child I was given to football, then I played performance handball for 6 years. And you know what the climax is? I didn’t like watching football or handball at all. Even now I don’t like it. I’d rather be in the center of the action than watch others having fun.

But to become a creator you have to understand the game. And the game begins with understanding attention. To be good at the game, you have to know how to get attention and how to keep it. Otherwise you lose. Otherwise you don’t get results. Otherwise, others steal the attention you deserve.

And you’ll see that as you unlearn getting on your phone to check social media and scrolling pointlessly, you’ll get on your phone to create. But don’t get me wrong: you need to consume content to see trends and stay up to date with what’s in demand and what’s working. You need to consume content for inspiration and education. But only in this way is it useful to consume. Otherwise, it’s just a distraction. It’s just wasted time. Consume with benefit and create.

Show others what you have learned to do. Tell your story. Sell your products or services. Have your say. And in time you will see that you will also reap the fruits of your labor. Because in the new economy, you need to do these things to survive. And you will see that you will like it. Just don’t beat yourself up.

Stay strong!
