Why I Recommend WordPress and Not Something Else

  • English
Reading time:

I’ve been using WordPress for many years for my websites and I thought I’d share with you the reasons why I chose this option out of the hundreds of others available on the market.

This is also why I want to explain why and when I recommend WordPress to my agency clients.

A little context:

WordPress is an open-source platform used by over 835 million websites worldwide. This platform has been constantly updated over the years by numerous developers globally.

WordPress is the most flexible platform because anyone can develop different functions and solutions for it.

WordPress can be installed for free on any website.

The problems with websites in general

When people want to create a website, they have two options: either they build it themselves, or they hire someone to do it for them.

If you hire someone:

– You always depend on the person or team who built your site to optimize and edit what’s needed => If you’re 100% dependent on them, it’s risky because what will you do if they are no longer available?
– You need to ensure that they give you full rights to everything built (including intellectual property rights).
– You need to make sure you can always hire someone else in case you no longer agree with the terms or conditions of your current provider.
– You need to make sure you can make changes on the website without always relying on them, or if you do rely on them, that they are flexible, fast, and available.
– You need to ensure that they will make constant updates, maintain data security, and keep the site’s performance intact.

If you choose to do it yourself:

– You can always hire someone externally for help.
– You don’t depend on anyone.
– Your only limitation is your accumulated knowledge and skills.
– You need to make sure to choose a flexible option, easy to modify, and widely used in the market.

Why did I choose WordPress?

I found it to be the best option because on WordPress, you always have access to free functionalities, themes, and resources created by others for almost any need.

It’s easy to edit in WordPress, and the interface is user-friendly.

Many people know how to work in WordPress, so I can easily find help.

It’s an affordable solution with a great quality-price ratio.

You can find tutorials and information online for any technical issue you encounter. So far, I’ve solved every technical problem I faced by searching on Google or YouTube.

If I had to code a website myself, it would take me forever to learn how to do it… and in the end, the result would be similar.

If I were to use platforms like ClickFunnels, GoHighLevel, Wix, or others that offer quick website building options, I would face the following:

– I would always depend on those platforms, their updates, and their dynamic pricing.
– I wouldn’t fully own my website… if any of those platforms shut down, I’d lose everything I created over the years.
– I would face SEO disadvantages.
– I’d be limited to their options.
– I couldn’t hire anyone externally to make changes on these platforms because we wouldn’t have access to the source code.

When do I recommend WordPress to my clients?

– When they want to quickly test and validate a concept on the market because it’s fast and easy to create pages and an online shop in WordPress.
– When they want maximum flexibility and speed in presenting their business and offers.
– When they don’t have a budget of thousands of euros to create websites from scratch.
– When they don’t need very advanced features for online commerce (in this case, I’d rather recommend other solutions like Shopify, OpenCart, Odoo).
– When they want to make quick edits to texts/images on the site without depending on someone external.
– When they have an external platform built in code and need a very flexible website suitable for marketing campaigns (it’s easy to create a presentation or marketing funnel in WordPress and link it to the external platform).
– When they want to save money in the medium and long term because WordPress doesn’t require high maintenance costs.
– When they don’t need something very advanced like a marketplace or an e-Commerce site with dozens of functions, automations, and options.

What problems have I had with WordPress, and how did I solve them?

The main issue with WordPress is that you have too many options to choose from: too many themes, too many plugins…

A few years ago, I was building WordPress websites for my clients for a fee. And I realized it’s super hard to constantly learn how to work with new themes and plugins. For example, on ThemeForest, you have thousands of WordPress themes and plugins to choose from. But all of them require advanced technical knowledge and are not easy to handle if you don’t know programming.

So I tried to find an “evergreen” solution that I could use over and over again, regardless of the client’s requirements.

The solutions available in the market:

– Elementor: probably the most used in Romania; it’s a kind of plugin that allows you to build pages however you want, with drag & drop.
– Divi, Oxygen, Visual Composer.
– Themify

– others

I chose to use Themify.

Why Themify?

– It’s super flexible.
– It has numerous extra modules compatible with Themify.
– It easily integrates with any other WordPress plugin.
– I can design unlimited pages easily and quickly with drag & drop.
– I can use ready-made templates for web pages so I don’t have to build them from scratch.
– It’s very easy for me to copy sections and entire pages from one site to another without losing anything.
– It’s super convenient and intuitive.
– In my opinion, it’s much better than Elementor.

Problems I encountered at the beginning with Themify:

– It took me a while to learn all the theme’s functions (there are a lot).
– It took me a while to create a workflow that would allow me to work super fast and make everything fit for all screens (desktop, mobile, tablet).
– It took me a while to get used to all their extra modules and integrations.
