I have been in the marketing field for over 7 years. Here are 10 tips that will help you in your business:
1. Marketing vs Product
If only one of them is good, it won’t help you much. Some only invest in marketing and don’t solve their product problems. That’s why selling is more difficult. Some invest only in product development and forget about marketing. They have a great product that is gathering dust because no one knows about it.
The secret is a combination of the two.
2. Sell a solution to a hungry market
Identify what the market wants. The greater and more urgent the need, the easier it will be for you to sell. The bigger the pain and the problem, the more money you stand to make. Analyze what customers want and adapt your offers accordingly.
3. Direct Marketing or Branding
Direct marketing brings you fast and measurable results. Branding brings you slow results, but creates long-term loyalty. Both complement each other. Most businesses don’t have a brand. They only have a logo or a so-called visual identity. A brand means reputation. A brand means having many customers that you serve consistently and being recognized in the market for it.
4. Organic or paid
Both cost. Both eat up your resources: time, money, energy. Both complement each other. For quick results and amplification you invest money in ads. For sustainability you invest in organic content.
5. Stories have power
Be a good storyteller. Write and speak clearly at a level accessible to everyone. Focus on audience pain points and offer solutions. What you say is more important than how you say it (because you can describe a shit very nicely, but at the end of the day it’s still a shit).
Your story must be engaging and relevant to your audience so that it resonates with their needs and wants. To be able to tell a good story, you need to have clarity. Be a good writer. Speak and write like you’re in 6th grade. You have to be able to make anything complex seem simple to whoever sees/hears what you are saying. This way you will provide clarity.
6. Grab attention
The first sale you make is actually getting someone’s attention. Increase content consumption by providing ongoing and relevant value to your audience. Attracting attention and maintaining interest is key to turning potential customers into loyal customers.
7. Build desire before you sell
Turn curiosity into buying action. Arouse interest and make your product seem irreplaceable in the perception of customers. After you build that desire, put a price on what you’re offering. The price is what you pay. Value is what you get. Ask yourself, “What would be valuable to my customer to solve their problem?”. It always offers more value than the charged price.
Remember: a good offer beats any argument. Make clear promise and reduce risk.
8. Delegate
As a business owner you must delegate and lead. Get capable people with you to help you grow your business. Focus on activities that generate money and don’t get caught up in details that can be delegated. To make the wheel turn you need cash flow (constant money). If you get too busy in your business, you won’t even have time to spend the money you make. And then, what’s the point of what you wanted to start from the beginning?
You have to think about how much your time is worth. How much is an hour worth to you? For this you can do a simple calculation. Divide your total profit for a month by the number of hours you worked. If an activity is worth less than this gain, delegate.
In the beginning you need money fast to breathe. Then you need wealth, which builds more slowly. If you play the game over a period of decades, you have a better chance of getting rich. Because people want to be rich, not get rich. And many do not have this patience. The long game has less competition.
9. Develop skills
Gain new skills that help you in the long run (eg: writing, communication, leadership). Focus on the skills that bring you the biggest gains. Short-term skills are things like learning how to create a Facebook ad. The platform is constantly changing and so are the algorithms. For this it is necessary to always be there and constantly learn.
Use 80% of your time to increase your LTV (average customer lifetime). Make them buy more and more often.
Do the basics. You don’t need the most complex marketing funnel in the world. Sometimes it’s as simple as an ad and a text message.
10. The future of marketing
Much of the manual work will and is being automated with the help of AI. If it used to be difficult to write an informative blog post, now you can do it in seconds. That is why the environment is becoming increasingly competitive.
In order to make a difference, you have to relate to your own experiences (storytelling), because they cannot be copied by anyone. That leads to authenticity, human connection.
